In a devastating incident that occurred in the Meta Department of central Colombia, a pilot lost his life when two warplanes collided during a routine training flight.

According to a statement released by the Colombian Air Force, the unfortunate incident took place at 17:28 local time (01:28 GMT) near airbase No. 2 in the Apiay region. The aircraft involved in the collision were T-27 Tucano fighter jets, both engaged in a training mission at the time.

While the identity of the pilot in the second plane remains undisclosed, it was confirmed that Lieutenant Colonel Mario Andres Espinosa Gonzalez tragically lost his life in the accident. The Colombian Air Force expresses deep sorrow for the loss and extends heartfelt condolences to the pilot’s family and colleagues.
